LearnSafe®’s gang prevention program
provides interoperability between schools, district staff, local law
enforcement agencies, first responders, and state and federal authorities.
The program’s interagency collaboration approach shares gang
intelligence, prevention strategies, and resources by training and
organizing school personnel, fostering effective communication, and
using best of breed technologies to effectively and efficiently share
intelligence with the appropriate authorities. Technologies may include,
but are not limited to, the following: |
- Facial recognition software: Continuous analysis
of facility video surveillance that recognizes individuals from
a database and alarms upon recognition.
- Vandalism detection: Intelligent video software
captures field of view parameters and alarms on changes (e.g.,
graffiti on a wall that didn’t exist before)
- Open source database sharing: Works with law
enforcement agencies to interface with existing criminal and anti-gang
databases in the state to update schools and first responders
on latest information on sexual predators, gang members, known
criminals, and persons of interest.
- Command and Control: Continuous local and/or
offsite monitoring and automated notification for subsequent action
by district personnel and local first responders.

LearnSafe®’s TEACh Safety® curriculum (Teacher Education
to Achieve Child Safety) is the primary behavioral intervention
component of the LearnSafe® gang prevention program. The key elements
of TEACh Safety relevant to gang prevention and intervention are
as follows: |
- School-wide teacher training in effective classroom
management and effective relationship-building at the elementary
level
- Conflict resolution/peer mediation programs
to reduce acts of aggression as a form of problem-solving
- No-bullying programs to prevent a climate of
fear from permeating a school system
|
LearnSafe®’s gang prevention initiative is typically structured
as follows:
|
- Assessment of the current gang prevention programs
currently in use by the state and the district
- Identification of areas that require improvement
and identifies optimal areas of interface with local first responders
and state agencies
- Recommendations for appropriate interventions
through its TEACh Safety TM curriculum and risk mitigation strategies
- Collaboration with existing community, state,
and federal gang prevention and school safety programs
|
LearnSafe® will typically interface with and enhance
the capabilities of existing state and federal gang prevention programs
using its blend of technology, training, and continuing education,
or can implement its gang prevention and intervention program into
a statewide, consistent gang prevention option for schools.
