In order to gain a good frame of reference as to what
the relative strengths or weaknesses of an existing security program
truly are, the security program currently in your school or facility
must be assessed. Our professionals identify possible challenges and
risks, and will recommend appropriate solutions.
Our Advisory Board members are pioneers in the field of school
assessments, conducting numerous site audits from large urban school
districts with several hundred schools to rural areas with only
a handful of schools. The purpose of an assessment is to provide
school administrators with a better understanding of their preparedness
to deal with a serious security incident. The assessment also proves
an insight as to how safe students and staff feel in their school.
The tragedies of the past several years has rekindled an interest
by schools to have an outside agency come in and assess their needs
and to make responsible recommendations. There are several "self
assessment" tools available on the market. However, LearnSafe®
is of the belief that it is difficult to conduct a self-assessment
and obtain an accurate picture of your assets, threats, vulnerabilities,
potential losses and solutions for safeguarding your assets.
The security assessment provides an independent review of security
policies, procedures, personnel, security hardware, electronic systems,
emergency/crisis readiness, training, emergency communications systems,
and of the many program facets required to keep students and staff
safe. The key to effective security is an approach which balances
all the elements.
The security assessment will also ensure that the district is in
compliance with federal and any state mandates related to school
security.
During an assessment, both short and long-term security goals will
be identified to ensure that the existing security program and the
recommendations made support district growth and other factors that
may impact the program both now, and in the future.
Having a solid safe school plan with clearly defined policies and
procedures will help school and district personnel mitigate the
risk of in-crisis procedural breakdowns and may also assist in defense
against any potential litigation that may arise from an incident
on a school site.
