Bomb Threats and Other Threats:
 
  • Does the plan emphasize safety?
  • Does the plan include a method of evacuation?
  • Does the plan include any search procedures?
  • Does the plan include telephone tracing procedures?
  • Are the telephone tracing procedures tested periodically?
  • When was the last test for the tracing procedure?
  • Is attendance and disciplinary information shared with LEA for investigations?
   
Procedures:
 
  • Does the plan specify procedures for emergency situations (fire, hostage,
    disturbance, etc) and other hazards to student safety?
  • Does the plan include an analysis of each hazard or situation to emphasize priority based on level of threat?
  • Does the plan for each situation (see A.1.d. above) address all phases (prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery of an emergency) situation?
  • Was the plan developed in collaboration with local emergency agencies?
  • Are the plans available to all appropriate personnel?
  • Are the plans reviewed and updated at least annually?
  • Does the plan identify who will initiate the emergency procedures?
  • Does the plan specifically task personnel with given responsibilities?
  • Does the plan identify who should notify outside agencies?
  • Is supporting equipment to the plan regularly inspected and maintained?
   
District or other Crisis Management Team:
 
  • Are trained personnel prepared to deal with post-incident trauma?
  • Do school administrators know the Crisis Management Team members?
  • Has planning been conducted with additional agencies to provide assistance if needed?
   
Training:
 
  • Have all staff and necessary persons received annual training in security procedures?
  • Is the effort made to train substitute and student teachers on procedures?
  • Is documentation of the all training recorded and stored?
  • Who documents, records, and stores the training information?
   
First Aid Training:
 
  • Are school staff trained and current in CPR?
  • How many personnel are trained in CPR?
  • Are school staff trained in basic life-saving techniques (breathing restoration, reducing bleeding, shock prevention, and chocking)?
  • Are names of trained personnel posted in prominent locations throughout the school?
  • Who provided the training to these personnel?
  • When was their last training conducted?
   
Safety and Security Assessment:
 
  • Are the school’s safety and security procedures inspected annually?
  • Who conducts the assessment?
  • Was a Mock Crisis Drill conducted as part of the assessment?
  • Was an evacuation or lock down included in the Mock Crisis Drill?
  • Are the results of the assessment recorded and stored at the school?
