Our nation’s education system contends with unprecedented
challenges today. Never before have children faced such danger in
the places once thought to be the safest – our schools. High
schools, elementary schools, and even small rural schoolhouses have
become the backdrops of horrific violence against children, proving
that no community in America is immune from this danger.
Solving this problem requires non-intrusive, cost-effective approaches.
Created in conjunction with state legislators, former federal and
state law enforcement officials, prosecutors, school administrators,
faculty, and former members of the U.S. military’s Special Forces,
the LearnSafe™ Initiative addresses these challenges with a
full suite of security products and services designed to minimize
the risk of school violence and misconduct.
We created the LearnSafe™ Initiative in 2006 in response to
an alarming increase in violence and employee misconduct in our nation’s
schools. Our imperative was simple: provide our nation’s children
and teachers with the ability to learn and teach in a safe environment.
An innovative new program, the LearnSafe™ Initiative provides
the tools and training to dramatically decrease the risk of violence
that kids face daily. While we can’t prevent every crime, we
can certainly make it more difficult for these crimes to take place.
The LearnSafe™ Initiative combines a security curriculum, continuing
education programs, and a robust suite of technology and security
services. Our goal is simple: to help administrators, teachers, students,
and parents deal with school safety and security issues to foster
a safe environment in which children can learn without fear.
There are several organizations in the market today that provide bundled
security services for schools; however, we at the LearnSafe™
Initiative have set ourselves apart from other programs in the following
fundamental ways:
- We have a truly customized program designed
by educators & seasoned security experts – Our
program is designed by educators, for educators. We identify
the unique challenges faced by each location and district,
and deliver tailored solutions. A LearnSafe™ Certified
school is universally compliant with all state and federal
security requirements and guidelines.
- Minimal visible infrastructure –
Our approach minimizes the visible security infrastructure
(detectors, cameras, etc.) while maintaining an exceptionally
safe learning and teaching environment.
- Prevention focus: proactive threat identification
– In many cases, there are signs of potential violence
before it occurs. It is critical that those in the school
environment learn to recognize these signs. Our program
trains school personnel on implementing proven processes
to prevent them.

- Expert witness program – Our security
professionals are available to LearnSafe™ Certified
schools who need post-incident representation in times of
crisis.
- Integrated solution – Our open architecture
solutions tie seamlessly with the existing security infrastructure
that may already be in schools, allowing districts to preserve
their current investments in security products and processes.
- Unique funding approach – Unlike
most security solutions providers, our program assists public
and private school systems with program funding in such
a way that the burden placed on the taxpayer or endowment
is minimized or, in some cases, eliminated altogether. Schools
should not have to sacrifice new books, field turf, or other
important operational line items from their budgets to pay
for security systems.

We strongly believe in our program and are dedicated to the prospect
of empowering our educators to protect our country’s most valuable
assets – our children. We must strive to create an atmosphere
in which our kids do not resort to violence to express their emotions.
However, we must also have a response plan in place that allows us
to deal with a crisis should it happen. Given today’s climate
we can’t wait for someone’s emotions to fail in the school
or the workplace, because in this day and age failure could turn into
tragedy.
Yours in school safety,
The LearnSafe Initiative Team |
